Lansdowne Gardens, an AHC community in Baltimore County, has secured $1 million in federal funding for a new community center thanks to the advocacy of Congressman Kweisi Mfume (MD-07). The Lansdowne – Baltimore Highlands Community Center will allow us to expand our onsite Resident Services at Lansdowne Gardens and serve 400 individuals, including children, families, and neighboring community members. It will also allow for more public and private community partners to reach families where they live. Industry Leadership in Action At the Urban Land Institute’s Spring Meeting in New York City, Paul Bernard, AHC President & CEO, participated in a panel discussion about how to use ULI Terwilliger Center’s 2024 Home Attainability Index to drive change. The index is a data-rich resource for assessing the housing market’s range of attainable housing for a region’s workforce. Paul shared how AHC is addressing the housing needs in the Mid-Atlantic region. In Case You Missed It AHC’s Randolph Road secured federal funding for its childcare center. An AHC resident from Charter House spoke at a Montgomery County Council public hearing about his experience in affordable housing. April is Fair Housing Month. Arlington’s Colonial Village neighborhood is the best place to live according to Niche. NEWS NUGGETS Nestlé Partners with AHC for NesFest We’re so happy to partner with Nestlé for their annual Week of Service. During this year’s NesFest, Nestlé brought students from our College & Career Readiness program to their headquarters for career exploration, lunch, and a seed ball-making activity for growing wildflowers. Our students learned a lot from the employee volunteers. In the afternoon, our teens joined Nestlé volunteers in the park for a barbecue and outdoor activities like soccer, basketball, and inflatable ax throwing. NesFest was a blast for our residents. View Slideshow & Video   Convening for Community Safety The Resident Ambassador Committee recently met with the Arlington County Police Department to discuss community safety and learn the ways they can support as resident leaders. The police officers answered questions and shared resources.   Welcoming Spring Our onsite Resident Services staff organized fun activities for our residents to celebrate the changing season. During spring community-building events, residents enjoyed food, arts & crafts, and outdoor games. Partners, volunteers, and staff made these events engaging for the families and individuals living in our communities. Check out this fun video recapping the events!
