John — Jahana is not like most representatives that you will find in Congress. Her story is one of achievement despite the odds and overcoming the obstacles that so many people face.

Growing up in the cycle of poverty and addiction, she found herself pregnant at 17. She had her daughter, went back to school, received multiple degrees, reached the pinnacle of teaching, and now sits in Congress.

Education helped save her life, which is why she is a fierce advocate for equitable access to educational opportunities for all students and families.

She understands that education provides a foundation for economic stability and the beginnings of a lifelong capacity for empathy, compassion, and generosity. Having been in the classroom for over a decade, she also understands that college is not for everyone so we need to provide multiple pathways to success as part of the K-12 experience. But right now, our public schools are in need of robust investment — to remedy inequities, provide much needed resources, and support students, teachers and staff.

Since being elected in 2018, she has actively advocated to make higher education and workforce readiness more accessible, affordable, and equitable. She has championed legislation to lower costs for students and support technical and apprenticeship programs.

Jahana knows we cannot mistake our progress for victory, though. Backed by extreme MAGA Republicans, her opponent would ground our progress to a halt if he successfully defeats Jahana and flips this seat red.
