If you haven’t checked the calendar yet, it’s April 20.

It’s a day that activists and legislators nationwide use to raise
awareness about the unjust nature of our nation’s controlled substances
policy toward cannabis.

For years, Adam has supported House legislation like the MORE Act to end
the federal prohibition on cannabis, remove it from the list of banned
controlled substances, and begin to rectify the decades of failed policies
that have derailed the lives of far too many Americans.

Republicans have blocked it each time — including abusing the Senate
filibuster to block it from even coming up for a vote after Democrats
passed it in the House.

Last December, President Biden pardoned every American convicted of
marijuana possession — an important step towards nationwide
decriminalization, which will help reduce barriers to employment, housing,
and education.

But we must go further.

Cannabis reform is a bipartisan issue with widespread support among the
majority of Americans. It’s already legal for adult use in 24 states,
including California. The legal cannabis industry generated $33 billion in
sales last year, creating tax revenue used to support public goods like
roads and schools.

Enough is enough. Convictions for minor, nonviolent offenses have
destroyed lives, torn apart families, and led to the disproportionate
incarceration of people of color.

It’s time for Washington to get with the times and remove cannabis from
the federal list of controlled substances. It’s time to make our justice
system fairer and begin to rectify the damage of the most destructive
elements of the War on Drugs.

Adam will fight to decriminalize cannabis nationwide, including by
abolishing the filibuster if necessary. First, we need to win this race,
elect Democratic majorities, and defeat Trump.
