Dear John,
Two nights ago, Israel sent muted retaliatory strikes into Iran, in response to Iran’s failed missile attacks on Israel on April 13. So far these military tit for tats - while signaling a new and dangerous escalation of hostilities beyond the use of proxies - have not yielded serious casualties.
But that could change. Things could go wrong. The potential for escalation remains.
Humanity is playing so close to the edge of the cliff when it comes to our propensity for war. John F. Kennedy’s words take on ever more relevance: “Mankind must put an end to war, or war will put an end to mankind.”

Werner Erhard said we can live our lives in one of two ways: according to circumstances, or according to a vision. Now, in 2024, we must develop a vision of a world without war. We need to imagine a planet without war a hundred years from now, and then reverse engineer from there.
Where we play war games, we should also play peace games. Where we have armies of military personnel, we should also have armies of peace builders. Where we have a Military Academy, we should also have a Peace Academy. We should have a U.S. Department of Peace.
The task of our generation is to create a world in which real peace is possible. Such a world would be defined by global collaboration of a kind we have never seen before. That will not be easy, and it will not be quick. But we must get started.
Our campaign has stood for a better future for humanity. We will continue to stand for that. Let's devote ourselves to a better way, a different vision, and a hopeful future for all the world.
Together, we can make it happen.
