Rep. Troy E. Nehls Speaks on Amendment to Israel Security Supplemental Appropriations Act Greetings! I wanted to take a moment to share with you a recap on what happened last week in Texas' 22nd District and the United States House of Representatives. This Week in Washington Chairman Troy E. Nehls Holds Hearing on "Getting to Work: Examining Challenges and Solutions in the Commuter Rail Industry" This week, the Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines, and Hazardous Materials held a hearing to discuss the state of commuter passenger rail, with a focus on developing commuter rail to ensure it is safe, efficient, cost-effective, and meets the demands of the American public. Investments and innovation in our nation's rail system are essential to building a robust and competitive American transportation system. However, we must ensure federal policies and spending are balanced with a realistic analysis of consumer demand for commuter rail and the best use of hard-earned taxpayer dollars. Today's technology has made it possible for many to work remotely, which has caused many workers to purchase homes outside of major cities and forego their daily commute, naturally affecting the ridership of commuter rail and demand. During the hearing, I was able to hear from witnesses about the challenges and opportunities for commuter rail services, along with best practices to improve service, realize efficiencies, and increase fare revenues. Listen to my opening statement HERE, and my questions for the witnesses HERE. Rep. Troy E. Nehls Speaks on Amendment to the Fourth Amendment Is Not For Sale Act The Fourth Amendment Is Not For Sale Act (FANFSA) passed the United States House of Representatives this week. This legislation would prohibit law enforcement and intelligence agencies from purchasing personal information about customers or subscribers of electronic and remote computing service providers, such as social media and cloud-computing companies, from a third party. I co-sponsored and spoke in support of an amendment to FANFSA, which clarifies data exceptions for public content, public records, background checks, and License Plate Readers to help preserve some of the tools law enforcement currently uses. The amendment allows these records to remain available for our nation's law enforcement community to use in their investigations, while also preventing unreasonable search and seizure by the government. I'm proud to say this amendment passed the House by voice vote. As a former law enforcement officer for nearly 30 years and former Sheriff of Fort Bend County, Texas, I will always back the blue and uphold the Constitution and the rights of the American people. Nehls Offers an Amendment to the Israel Security Supplemental Package This week, I offered an amendment to the Israel Security Supplemental Appropriations Act, which would ensure the money in the Israel package goes only to Israel, not to any other country. Sadly, this amendment did not make it out of the Rules Committee. Watch my remarks from the Rules Committee hearing HERE. This Week in TX-22 Update for 2024 Congressional Art Competition The submission deadline for the Congressional Art Competition is now Tuesday, April 30, 2024.
