In 1938, my grandparents traveled across the country, escaping the Great Depression that had decimated their family farm. They were fortunate to come to Pierce County, where they found jobs and eventually bought farmland just behind where the Tacoma Mall sits today. It was here on the farm they raised my father, my sister, and me. It was here I learned the value of hard work and that if we care for the land, the land will care for us.

Carrying those values with me, I raised my three sons on a small farm in Kitsap County, where together we cared for two goats, seven pigs, a dozen sheep, and over 100 chickens. I feel incredibly blessed to have been able to pass on the same values my grandparents and father taught me.

This community has been the bedrock of opportunity for generations of families, including mine. But sadly, those same opportunities are slipping away for too many of our neighbors. We are losing our forests and farmlands too fast, and too many of our families and neighbors are struggling to feed their families and provide a roof over their heads.

I'm running to represent Washington's 6th Congressional District because our community needs a leader who will bring a sense of urgency, the ability to work across differences, and bold, transformative action to get Congress back to work for the people.

We have great momentum with community leaders like Rep. Derek Kilmer, former Rep. Norm Dicks, 27 Labor unions, 13 Washington Tribal Nations, and a number of national organizations already supporting our campaign. But we have a long road ahead, and I’m going to need help from supporters like you to get to Congress.
