An Afternoon with Leading Conservative Thinkers

I had the privilege of giving the keynote speech and participating in a panel at America First Policy Institute (AFPI) on Thursday night in Fort Worth.

AFPI has become one of America's leading conservative think tanks, launched by native Texan Brooke Rollins, my friend of 25 years. She also ran the Texas Public Policy Foundation (TPPF) for 15 years, propelling it to the national force it is today. Brooke is one of the most talented conservative leaders in America. She was President Trump's domestic policy advisor.

Be An Angel Gala

I have been on the board for Be An Angel for 36 years and have raised over $25 million for children with disabilities, many with very serious conditions.

It was Jan’s and my honor to chair their western-themed gala in Houston again last Friday. Jan looked great, as always. I was wearing my John Wayne coat from one of his 1940s westerns.

Former Oilers quarterback and my friend of 45 years, Dan Pastorini, our Be An Angel Chairman, delivered an excellent speech. To learn more, and to see some of our precious Angels, click here [[link removed]].

The Survival and Strength of Our Rural Communities is Vital to the Future of Our State

Halt New Cement Plant [[link removed]][link removed]

I hosted a town hall in Sherman on Monday night to discuss residents’ concerns over the proposed project for a permanent cement kiln in Grayson County.

I have studied the issue and spoken with my staff to learn as much as possible about it. The huge crowd was unanimously opposed to granting a permit to build a cement kiln in their area.

The survival and strength of our rural communities is vital to the future of our state. I believe in free markets in Texas. However, in certain situations, when dealing with businesses that can potentially hurt our communities, we also have to weigh what is in the public’s best interest.

Due to these concerns, I cannot support the project. There is simply too much risk to the county and its citizens. To learn more about the issue, read about it here [[link removed]], and to read my letter to TCEQ Chairman Jon Niermann, click here. [[link removed]]
