Welcome to another edition of FT Now! We know it’s impossible to escape Coronavirus in the news these days, but this week we’re capturing a few themes that may not be getting as much attention as they ought to. For starters, the U.S. intelligence community is fairly convinced that China is lying about its total cases and deaths - and at least a couple senators are not having it. Governors around the country are rising up to be the true leaders of the fight against the pandemic. Last but not least, there’s an undercurrent of Democratic politicians hoping to use Coronavirus as a way to sneak their progressive agenda onto an unsuspecting public. Green New Deal, anyone? Read below for more - and stay safe!

What Happened:
At least two prominent Republican senators are speaking out against China’s handling of the Coronavirus epidemic. Meanwhile, a report from the U.S. intelligence community accuses China’s communist government of underreporting its total cases and deaths associated with the virus.

Senators Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Ben Sasse (R-NE) point out that the Chinese government is responsible for the Coronavirus becoming a worldwide pandemic. "This pandemic began in China," said Cruz. Sasse said in his statement, "The Chinese Communist Party has lied, is lying, and will continue to lie about Coronavirus to protect the regime."

California Governor Gavin Newsom Says Coronavirus is an "Opportunity for Reimagining a More Progressive Era"
What Happened:
Democrat Gov. Gavin Newom was asked if he thought the Coronavirus outbreak would be a good time for progressive Democrats to force their agenda onto the American people. His answer was...telling.
Why You Should Care:
Newsom isn’t the first to suggest the pandemic is a political "opportunity" for Democrats - and he certainly won’t be the last. Regardless, it’s not a good look and reeks of the worst kind of partisan politics. The American people will take note.
What Happens Next:
Unfortunately, watch for Democrats to use Coronavirus to try and force their radical agenda on the American people.
