Good morning,

Today is the federal government's favorite day, when Uncle Sam comes knocking with demands that you pay up for corruption, cronyism, and unconstitutional programs. The One Click Survey asks what you think should be done with the Internal Revenue Service.

This is the Texas Minute for Monday, April 15, 2024.

Federal Authorities Recapture Terror-watchlist Suspect An Afghan national on the terror watchlist is reportedly back in federal custody after he was released on bond by a judge in San Antonio. Sydnie Henry has the details [[link removed]].

Mohammed Karwan initially crossed into the U.S. in 2023 but was not yet on the terror watchlist, according to officials with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. He was released into the U.S. as part of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s alternatives to detention program.

When it later became clear that Karwan was a member of the terrorist organization Hezb-e-Islami, he was added to the watchlist. ICE agents arrested him in February. DHS prosecutors failed to mention to the judge presiding over the case that Karwan was a suspected terrorist, which led to his release.

After a public outcry, the federal officials re-captured Karwan.

"Don’t let Joe Biden or anyone tell you that they lack the power to enforce our laws. They clearly can. They just don’t want to. The border crisis is a choice our government makes every single day." – Victor Avila [[link removed]] Fort Worth City Employees Can Become DEI ‘Champions’

City employees in Fort Worth can become “Diversity Matters Champions” as part of the local government’s cultural awareness program. Emily Medeiros has the story [[link removed]].

City employees can qualify for the diversity designation by attending events dedicated to LGBT "pride," Hispanic Heritage, and Juneteenth. The cultural awareness programs are organized by the Diversity and Inclusion Employee Committee, which is operated by the city manager’s office.

Tarrant County GOP Chairman Bo French has called on the city to disavow diversity and inclusion programs.

"We keep finding out that our beloved red county is promoting radical Marxism. Diversity and inclusion programs do the opposite of what they claim. They only seek to divide us and promote racism against white people (and Christians). I call on the city of Fort Worth to immediately disavow these programs or the good people in this community will mobilize like never before to run the Marxists out of office." – Bo French Antisemitism Complaint Filed Against Dallas ISD A complaint has been filed against the Dallas Independent School District for allegedly enabling a hostile campus environment for Jewish students. Will Biagini reports [[link removed]] the complaint was filed with the U.S. Department of Education by the international nonprofit organization StandWithUs and an unnamed Jewish student from Dallas ISD.

The student at Hillcrest High School claims to have been subject to repeated targeting due to his Jewish ancestry since at least 2021, with school officials present and doing nothing to stop it.

Dallas ISD has not responded to inquiries about the situation. Congress Reauthorizes FISA, Despite Concerns About Overreach Despite a delay caused by two Texas congressmen, the U.S. House proceeded on Friday to reauthorize the 1978 Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act that was given extra muscles following the terrorist attacks of 9/11. Yet, as Daniel Greer reports [[link removed]], Americans have become increasingly concerned that the FISA powers are too broad and unchecked.

Former President Donald Trump had urged Congress to kill the program, saying that FISA "was illegally used against me and many others. They spied on my campaign."

An amendment to the reauthorization measure on Friday would have required federal agents to follow the Fourth Amendment process for obtaining warrants to spy on American citizens. A majority of Texas' congressional delegation supported the amendment, but it was killed by House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA). On April 15...
