You’ve probably heard me talk before about the fact that our democracy is on the line in this next election.

I want to explain a bit about what I mean when I say that, because I think some of the more important elements of this fight aren’t getting enough public attention. But if you’re already convinced that we need to win this election to protect American democracy, I’d be grateful if you could pitch in a few dollars to power our fight.

And if you’re not, I hope you’ll keep reading.

First, there’s the obvious threat we face. Donald Trump tried to overturn the last election he lost, and if we succeed in beating him again this year, we can expect more of the same attacks. I certainly don’t have any confidence the same Republicans who voted to overturn the last election will stand up to those attacks this time around, so it’s critical that we elect a Democratic majority that will.

There are also huge risks to democracy abroad. It is so important that we help Ukraine, our democratic ally, defend itself from Russia’s aggression. Right now, the only thing standing in the way of desperately needed U.S. aid is the Republican House Majority’s refusal to hold a vote. It’s already passed the Senate. This is a vital issue for long-term peace and global stability, and it’s very much at stake this November.

Finally, I’m very focused on combating threats to our democracy posed by AI-fueled scams — namely, the risk of “deep fakes.” Deep fake scams pose a major risk to the security of our elections going forward, and I’m working to address this issue proactively, in a bipartisan way. When it comes to election integrity and the spread of disinformation, we absolutely shouldn't wait until after the fact to address a problem that we can already see coming.

I think most of us understand that our democracy hangs in the balance in this next election.

But understanding that isn’t enough. We need to work diligently to combat the threats we face. And that’s exactly what I’m focused on doing — by defending every eligible American’s right to vote, by working to deliver support for our allies in Ukraine, and by getting ahead of the risks new technologies pose for our elections going forward.

That’s the kind of leadership I believe the public deserves — not just talk, but real, concrete actions to protect our democracy. If that’s a mission you support, I’d be so grateful if you could make a donation so that I can continue to serve Colorado and our nation for another two years →
