The Good News:
Lauren recently testified at the first congressional hearing on Momnibus legislation before the House Veterans' Affairs Committee. She unapologetically advocated for the urgent need to support the maternal health of those who have served our country by passing the Maternal Health for Veterans Act — part of the comprehensive Momnibus Act — without delay.

This landmark legislation addresses the unique health challenges faced by our nation's veteran mothers and helps ensure they receive the care and support they deserve. It's a crucial step towards rectifying the broader issue of maternal health disparities, which disproportionately impacts Black moms.

Additionally, we are proud to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the Black Maternal Health Caucus this week, which Lauren co-founded and co-chairs. With the dedication of this team, we stay focused and committed to tackling the inequities in maternal health.

The Challenges:
Despite the progress we've made in bringing this issue to the forefront, we still have a lot of work ahead to sign every Momnibus bill into law. The CDC has reported a dramatic spike in mortality rates among mothers, stressing the critical need for immediate action. Lauren has called for the swift passage of the entire 13-bill Momnibus Act because moms can’t wait.
