Metro and City of Seattle partner on upgrades to Third Avenue in downtown Seattle

If downtown is the heart of the city, then Third Avenue is our main artery. This street is one of North America’s most productive transit corridors, used by hundreds of buses carrying tens of thousands of people every weekday.

*At-a-glance:*

* We’ve got multiple projects coming up this year to make bus travel more reliable and maintain the street, sidewalks, bus stops, and utilities on Third Avenue in downtown Seattle:
* Third Avenue transit corridor extension [ [link removed] ]
* Third Avenue South and South Main St bus stop improvements [ [link removed] ]
* Third Avenue repaving and water main replacement [ [link removed] ]
* Third Avenue South & Yesler Way pedestrian and bike improvements [ [link removed] ]

* Investing in downtown Seattle is a big priority for the City of Seattle. To learn more about other aspects of Seattle’s Downtown Activation Plan, please visit downtownisyou.com [ [link removed] ].
* You can find more details about the upcoming work described in this blog post on our Third Avenue Improvements website [ [link removed] ].
* These Third Avenue improvements include funding from the voter-approved Levy to Move Seattle [ [link removed] ]. Thank you, Seattle!

This year, we will work alongside City of Seattle departments, and our downtown partners to build improvements on Third Avenue. These include expanding the transit corridor, upgrades around bus stops, improving sidewalks and lighting to make it easier to walk, repaving the street to give buses a smoother ride, and maintaining utility systems.

These investments in Seattle’s infrastructure will help make Belltown, Pioneer Square, and downtown more accessible and easier to navigate for commuters, residents, and visitors alike.

*The path ahead*

Collectively, these Third Avenue projects reflect our vision to embrace innovative and forward-thinking approaches to transportation. These projects will create a better-connected and more sustainable transit network for everyone coming downtown and support Seattle’s larger downtown revitalization effort.
