Over the past year, Republicans in our state have fought to dismantle our public schools by expanding the use of private vouchers and limiting funding for our public schools.

This decision is just the tip of the iceberg. It will further disenfranchise North Carolina families. Not to mention, re-routing our taxpayer dollars to private schools will give Republicans control of school curriculums and pave the path for more book bans and extremist rhetoric in schools.

My career in public service began at the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools Board, where I advocated for equal access to education. I don’t plan on abandoning this work.
