Last week, Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds became the latest Republican to use the worsening global health crisis to push through extreme anti-abortion measures.

Let's be clear: these orders are a direct attack on women, and they are keeping patients from getting the medical care they need.

Under Gov. Reynolds's order, surgical abortions are a "non-essential" procedure, and are prohibited except in life-threatening cases.

Delaying abortion care this way is designed to push many women past the legal threshold in their state, forcing them to travel sometimes hundreds of miles out of state to get the help they need. Orders like these are not designed to prioritize health. They are designed to punish women. Period.
