    Racial Inequities In Postpartum Depressive Symptoms, Diagnosis And Care

    In the April Perinatal Mental Health and Well-Being issue, Sarah Haight of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and coauthors explore racial and ethnic disparities in postpartum depression symptoms, diagnosis, and care in seven US jurisdictions.

     

    They find that postpartum depressive symptoms were most prevalent among those identifying as Asian, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander, Southwest Asian, Middle Eastern, North African, multiracial, or Black. 

     

    Despite these trends, Asian, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander, Southwest Asian, Middle Eastern, North African, Hispanic, and non-Hispanic Black respondents were less likely than White people to report receiving postpartum mental health care.
