FL-27 Newsletter Vol. 118, Issue #58 Dear Friends/Amigos, From my family to yours, I want to wish you a very joyous Easter! Christians across Miami and around the world celebrate the key victory of their faith: the Resurrection of Jesus. I pray you and yours are celebrating with good company, excellent food, and some hard-earned rest. I wanted to remind you that this week in Miami, my office will be holding a Job Fair for residents of Florida's 27th Congressional District on Thursday, April 4th. More than 50 different employers, from local governments and federal agencies to private sector firms will be present to answer your questions about potential job opportunities. More information can be found below. If you have any questions, call (305) 668-2285 or email [email protected]. Hope to see you all there! It is an honor to serve you in Congress. Let me know how I can better serve you by calling my office at (202) 225-3931 with your opinion. Sincerely/Atentamente, María Elvira Salazar U.S. Representative (FL-27) ICYMI: GETTING ANSWERS ON THE U.S. EMBASSY IN HAVANA'S RELATIONSHIP WITH MADWOMAN! To this day, my office has not heard back from anyone at the State Department about the U.S. Embassy's contract with MadWoman, a supposed Cuban independent small business (MIPYME) that fired an employee for posting anti-regime slogans on his personal social media. I reminded the third-in-command at the State Department to deliver on the request I made in a letter to President Biden and Secretary Blinken in February: Turn in all communications between MadWoman and the Embassy to my office by April 1, 2024. There is only one day left, and my office is waiting! Read more about my line of questioning last week here. TUNE IN: THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES TO DEBATE MY MIGRATORY BIRDS OF THE AMERICAS CONSERVATION ENHANCEMENTS ACT! The House of Representatives just announced that it will be opening up debate on my bill, the Migratory Birds of the Americas Conservation Enhancements Act. This legislation will protect Miami's most beautiful birds, and safeguard our biological diversity for decades to come. I'll be speaking on the floor of the House to defend my bill, so stay tuned! The Neotropical Migratory Bird Conservation Act (NMBCA) provides competitive grants for habitat conservation, research and monitoring, and community outreach and education. The Migratory Birds of the Americas Conservation Enhancements Act of 2023 reauthorizes this program for the next 5 years. This bill will fund projects in the Western Hemisphere that have a positive impact on migratory birds. The bill passed unanimously in the House Committee on Natural Resources earlier this month.
