John,
Last week, the Environmental Protection Agency abruptly decided to stop enforcing mandated public health and environmental protections.
That’s right, the federal agency tasked with protecting our public health and the environment has given many industries a green light to pollute our air, land, and water—the agency will not issue fines for violations of certain water, air, and hazardous-waste-reporting requirements.
This is dangerous for every living being.
Tell the Environmental Protection Agency that now is the wrong time to stop enforcing our vital public health and environmental protections.
Industries such as petroleum refineries that are a major source of hazardous and toxic air pollutants are regulated by environmental laws. Severe and immediate risks from failing to enforce these laws is an assault on the safety of people and wildlife alike and an absolute abdication of the legal responsibilities of the Environmental Protection Agency.
We cannot allow the Environmental Protection Agency to excuse the potential release of excess toxic air pollutants and other pollution that exacerbate asthma, breathing difficulty, and cardiovascular problems.
John, please join us in saying NO to stopping the enforcement of laws that protect our environment.
If the EPA stops enforcing Clean Water Act safeguards—or associated monitoring and reporting requirements—the health of our rivers and streams will be in great jeopardy. This decision could let industries stop monitoring, reporting, or meeting permit conditions when dumping toxic pollutants into the rivers, wetlands, and streams that we rely on for clean drinking water and healthy wildlife habitat. The public relies on these reports to know when violations occur as well.
This is happening at the same time that the administration is working to take us back to the lowest level of Clean Water Act protections we’ve seen in nearly 50 years and abandoning clean air protections. The decision to simply stop enforcing environmental protection—even temporarily—could be a slippery slope toward a permanent end to these necessary measures that safeguard people and wildlife.
Please act now to stop the Environmental Protection Agency from giving industries open license to pollute.
Together we can help ensure a safer and healthier future for all living species. Thank you for standing with us today.
