Dear John,
These uncertain times remind us all of the critical work that must be done to strengthen our communities. A simple and safe way to support each other right now is to complete the U.S. Census.
This is a critical moment for us to shape our communities for the next 10 years. Every one of us matters, and every one of us must be counted. The Census is more than just a population count: it helps allocate nearly a trillion dollars in funding for things like roads, hospitals, and schools. The Census is also used to determine political representation; it’s a powerful force in shaping how we are represented in government.
Census data is especially vital now for emergency planning and response, and for social programs keeping people afloat as we grapple with COVID-19. Better census data will lead to better emergency response.
Millions of people historically have been undercounted in the Census, including communities of color, low-income communities, immigrant communities, and children. Today, we have the power to change that.
This Census Day, let’s spread the word: remind your friends, family members, and loved ones to complete the U.S. Census. Complete the Census and share the graphic above, tagging a loved one who you are counting on to be counted.
In honor of Census Day,

Lara S. Kaufmann, Director of Public Policy
