Dear  john ,

I hope that you and your family are well and enjoying the Tarheels, Blue Devils, and Wolfpack all reaching the Sweet 16 this weekend. Here’s to hoping for a total North Carolina championship game!

The famous Washington, D.C. cherry blossoms are now in peak bloom, according to the National Park Service. As the Cherry Blossom festival marks the annual kick-off to spring in D.C., please remember that my office is always available to assist with booking tours and tickets. It’s always a pleasure to welcome you and your family to our nation’s capital!

Washington’s Business As Usual?

Last Thursday at 2:30 am, swampy negotiators released a 1000+ page bill that spends more than $1.2 trillion dollars, and is chock-full of horrendous earmark projects.

You could see it coming a mile away. The leadership waited until the last minute and then released the “deal” when media was building a narrative and the jet fumes separating Members from a two-week Easter recess set the table for swampy Members to vote yes on nearly anything.

So without proper time to fully read and digest the bill, the House and Senate both passed the omnibus in a hurry before the weekend. That didn’t stop me and 112 of my Republicans colleagues from voting against the bill. That is far more than half of the Republican Conference.

TWEET: I voted NO

286 members stood shoulder to shoulder to perpetuate this bipartisan sell-out of our nation’s future. They affirmed and funded Biden’s border invasion, DEI earmarks, and all manner of wasteful and weaponized spending.

Congress holds the power of the purse, but the Swamp has yet again forfeited that power and abdicated any and all leverage to combat Biden’s disastrous policies. Americans deserve better.

TWEET: Woe betide the Republicans who vote for this.

This is what happens when Biden is allowed to continue his open borders push unchecked. I will continue to do all in my power to halt and reverse these harms, but the cards in Washington are currently stacked against the American people.

CBP One App Hearing

Last week, Congressman Clay Higgins and I convened a hearing on DHS’s unlawful use of the CBP One app to mass-parole hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens into the interior of the US.

This expanded CBP One use is not a solution to the border crisis; it is a desperate attempt to solve the administration’s political crisis and manage the optics of a chaotic border by streamlining catch-and-release policies. It is open borders with the option to check in through a mobile app on a smartphone.

How many of the approximately 750,000 aliens that have been released into the country under this administration’s expansion of the CBP One app have gone on to commit acts of violence against Americans? The country has witnessed the tragic results of these programs with the recent the rape of a 15-year-old child in Massachusetts by a Haitian allowed into the U.S. through the CHNV program.

The American people deserve robust screening and vetting processes for all prospective entrants, they deserve a secure border, and they deserve a federal government that upholds its fundamental duty to protect the safety and security of the American people.

The Week in Weaponized Government

One week ago, the Supreme Court heard arguments in one of the most important free speech cases this century – Murthy v. Missouri, formerly known as Missouri v. Biden. Frequent readers of this newsletter will recall details of the case, where the Biden administration laundered its censorship through big tech companies. I attended the arguments and truly believe this is one of the greatest First Amendment cases in the Supreme Court’s history.

TWEET: the pro-censorship crowd is out of arguments

We will learn SCOTUS’s decision in the case this summer, and I eagerly anticipate the decision.

After watching the oral arguments, I joined Fox News with my friend Rep. Jim Jordan, whom I’ve been battling censorship alongside this Congress, to debrief.

Last week, I was proud to vote for the Protecting Americans' Data from Foreign Adversaries Act, which passed the House.

READ: I believe that your data should be fully protected by a comprehensive data privacy law, and this bill is an important step toward that goal.

This is a far better legislative approach than the recent TikTok trojan horse bill, which targeted specific applications in a constitutionally dubious manner while still allowing foreign adversaries broad access to private data.

The next step is to fully protect your data domestically, and I’ll continue to fight for legislation that does so.

You may recall when I appeared on Newsmax a few weeks ago to announce that we would be demanding documents from Biden’s ghostwriter after the special counsel report found that Biden shared classified materials with him.

WATCH: What is he hiding? We’re demanding answers.

Last week, we subpoenaed his ghostwriter, Mark Zwonitzer for those documents so we can get to the bottom of this deception.

Art Competition

Each spring, the Congressional Institute sponsors a nationwide high school visual art competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent nationwide and in each congressional district. Since the Artistic Discovery competition began in 1982, more than 650,000 high school students have participated. Students submit entries to their representative’s office, and each Congressman selects a winner. Winners are recognized both in our district and at an annual awards ceremony in Washington, DC. The winning works are displayed for one year at the U.S. Capitol.

Artwork submissions are due to one of our district offices by April 12, 2024.
