We are still working hard to improve our neighborhoods March 31, 2020 We are still working hard to improve our neighborhoods. Although many of our facilities are closed to the public, we are still helping our friends and neighbors in Rock and Walworth counties. Together with Stateline Family YMCA and the Stateline Boys & Girls Club, Community Action is assembling and distributing 200 activity bags for students at Hackett and Merrill elementary school students in Beloit. Read more here. AWARE in Evansville staff members are busy delivering food every week to the 80 families in the Snackpackers program. The 38 families (with 95 children) enrolled in the Easter meal distribution will be receiving a ham, potatoes, milk, margarine, eggs, dinner rolls, fresh carrots, a cake mix and frosting next Tuesday along with candy-filled eggs for each of their children. Thanks to a $3,000 grant from the Stateline Community Foundation COVID-19 Emergency Response Fund, we are able to deliver groceries and supplies to 20 senior citizens in Beloit's Merrill and Hackett neighborhoods. Our Weatherization program is pleased to share that Energy Assistance has changed its guidelines to accommodate people affected by COVID-19, helping people in both Rock and Walworth counties. Community Kids Learning Center in Janesville remains open for families of essential workers who cannot work from home. Staff there are benefiting from a donation of homemade face masks from a United Way Blackhawk Region volunteer team. Beloit Fresh Start YouthBuild Americorps quickly adapted its academic, construction and community service curriculum to serve students remotely. Fresh Start is also launching its first online recruitment for students to enroll in the 2020-2021 school year. Twin Oaks Shelter for the Homeless in Darien is restricting visitors, but we are so happy to receive an outpouring of support that makes stories like these possible. Our successes aren't possible without the passionate work by our staff, volunteers and supporters.
