Outdoor warning siren
Outdoor Warning Sirens

Now that spring is officially here, it's a great time to brush up on our outdoor warning sirens! The purpose of an outdoor warning siren is to warn people who are outdoors to get indoors and tune into a local news station for information. These sirens are not designed to be heard inside buildings or homes.

*Reasons an outdoor warning siren is activated -
*

⚠️ The National Weather Service issues a Tornado Warning
⚠️ A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued with destructive winds 70 mph or higher
⚠️ Trained spotters have reported a tornado in or near the area
⚠️ Reported hail of 1.25' in diameter or greater
⚠️ Other emergencies as directed by the community's elected officials

The City of Hurst conducts a monthly outdoor warning siren test at 1 p.m. on the first Wednesday of the month, weather permitting. The test is audible and lasts approximately one minute. During each test, Hurst Fire Department personnel stand by at each location to report the proper functioning of the sirens.
