Message from Congressman Scott Fitzgerald

Good afternoon, and happy belated St. Patrick's Day!

In this week's eNewsletter, if you read until the end, I have a fun festive surprise to commemorate the holiday.

I'm headed back to Washington, DC today for legislative work.

In this week's newsletter edition, you'll get to read more about Special Counsel Robert Hur's testimony to the Judiciary Committee. For context, Mr. Hur was tasked with investigating President Joe Biden's mishandling of classified documents. The hearing was productive and painted a clear image of the President willfully retaining classified materials as a private citizen when he left the VP's office. In fact, Mr. Hur himself said that his report does not exonerate President Joe Biden.

In other news, I also had the privilege of meeting two important guests from Wisconsin last week – the American Legion National Commander and the National Secondary Principal of the year. More on that below.

Have a great week!

Special Counsel Robert Hur Testified at Judiciary Hearing

Last week, Special Counsel Robert Hur testified to the Judiciary Committee regarding his investigation into President Biden's mishandling of classified documents.

I was impressed with Mr. Hur's testimony before our committee, but I am obviously disappointed that despite the overwhelming evidence of President Biden's mishandling of classified documents, he declined to prosecute Mr. Biden.

The most alarming takeaway from the report is perhaps that Hur determined that Biden's memory had such "significant limitations" that he could not convince a jury that Biden held a "mental state of willfulness" that a serious felony requires.

I don't know whether to be more outraged by President Biden not being held criminally accountable or more alarmed by the fact that he won't be charged because President Biden can't hold a "mental state of willfulness."

A man who can't even be held responsible for mishandling classified information properly has absolutely no business occupying the Oval Office.

And the double standard is not lost on me. President Trump was treated differently than any other president by the DOJ when the FBI raided his home at Mar-a-Lago. But because President Trump isn't senile, he's the one facing criminal charges.

I joined Rep. Tom Tiffany on the Dan O'Donnell Show to discuss the hearing and report further. You can listen to that conversation here.

Wisconsin's National Secondary Principal of the Year

It was terrific to meet Wisconsin's Brookfield East High School Principal Andy Farley last week. Andy was named the Wisconsin Secondary Principal of the year in 2023 and the National Secondary Principal of the year in 2024.

This is an admirable accomplishment, and the students in Brookfield are lucky no doubt. Thank you, Andy, for all you do in SE Wisconsin!

Introduced American Legion National Commander Daniel Seehafer

Last week, I had the privilege of introducing American Legion National Commander Daniel Seehafer as he prepared to testify in a joint Senate and House Veteran Affairs Committee hearing.

Mr. Seehafer was elected national commander of The American Legion last August, in Charlotte, N.C., during the 104th national convention.

Though he serves all veterans, Mr. Seehafer is a Wisconsinite through and through. He was born and raised in Merrill, Wisconsin and lives in Beaver Dam today with his children and wife, Stacey, who is a member of American Legion Auxiliary Unit 157.

Mr. Seehafer is an ordained minister from Wisconsin, where he also earned his American Legion eligibility through service in the U.S. Navy and Navy Reservehe even served as a military chaplain.

A member of American Legion Post 157 in Horicon, Wis., Seehafer served in a number of American Legion offices at every level, including national chaplain and commander of the Department of Wisconsin.

The American Legion is lucky to have Mr. Seehafer as a leader, and us members were fortunate to hear his testimony last week.

You can watch my full introduction on Mr. Seehafer here.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

I'm proud of my Irish heritage, so I was excited to help the Digital Media Association celebrate St. Patrick's Day this year by sharing a playlist of my favorite songs! Even though St. Patrick's Day was yesterday, I like to listen to these Irish songs and artists all year long.

You can check out the playlist and listen on your favorite streaming service here. Sláinte!
