Health Affairs is offering paid internships this summer for students interested in health policy and scholarly publishing.
Applications are due March 31.
Each internship opportunity offers practical experience in key areas of publishing. These internships are intended for graduate or advanced undergraduate students.
In the March issue of Health Affairs, Jeah Jung of George Mason University and coauthors explore differences in quality-of-care outcomes in Medicare Advantage (MA) and traditional Medicare between minority and non-Hispanic White populations.
Using national data from 2016-19, they find that racial and ethnic gaps in quality of care between the two programs were inconsistent, and “varied with the minority group and quality measure in question.”
Through their research, Baird and coauthors discovered strong evidence for the overall protective effect of mask mandates and, to a lesser degree, anti-congregation policies.

Health Affairs is implementing a new word limit for journal research articles.
Beginning with submissions received on or after April 1, 2024, the word limit will change from 5,000 words, including endnotes, to 3,250, excluding endnotes.
Research papers using both qualitative and quantitative methods will be allowed a word count of 4,000 (excluding endnotes).
