Today is Equal Pay Day—the day that symbolizes how many extra days into the year women have to work to earn what men earned in the previous year. Black and Latina women have to work longer into the year to reach pay parity with men.

Culture and narrative change are huge part of winning pay equity. Pervasive gender stereotypes about the role of women in society and in the workplace enable discriminatory practices and unequal pay to persist.

This year, we enlisted Charm Offensive Media to help produce a set of videos designed to move hearts and minds, and shift the conversation. Our centerpiece video in partnership with the Time’s Up Foundation features students from Lafayette Elementary in Washington, DC talking about the pay gap and why it’s unfair.

Fight for what you've earned

As you can see from the video, even kids get it.

In order to accelerate the closing of the pay gap, we will need to engage the next generation of workers and changemakers, everyday men and women, employers, policy makers, advocates, and whoever else willing to join the fight. It is all of us working together in our own way to close the gender wage gap that will make it a reality in our lifetime.

To be sure, we are living through an extraordinary moment in our nation’s history. I am ready to meet it with all of you, and do what I can to win economic equity for all women.
