My name is Debbie Mucarsel-Powell. You might know me as a former Congresswoman from Florida, as a gun safety advocate, or as the Democrat running to defeat GOP Sen. Rick Scott and flip the Sunshine State blue.

I’m in this race because the fate of our democracy is on the line. I believe we deserve better than Rick Scott and the many other extremists in Washington.

Families like yours are at the heart of my campaign. For the past few years, I’ve watched a minority of extremists push my state down a path of right-wing extremism and divisiveness, all while attacking our cherished democratic institutions.

The far-right leadership in my state has banned books, created an elections police unit to scare voters, attacked LGBTQ+ youth, and left families defenseless against gun violence. In Washington, Rick Scott has pushed for a nationwide ban on abortions, an end to Social Security, and higher taxes on working families.

Unfortunately, this is a trend that’s happening across the country. It keeps me up at night — wondering what kind of country we’ll leave behind for our children. And I know I’m not the only one.

But if Democrats like you and me all stand together, we can defeat this dangerous extremism and leave behind a better, kinder country for our children. That’s why your input is so important as we iron out our campaign strategy.
