March opened with Super Tuesday and closes with daily updates from President Trump on America's response to coronavirus. (Check out President Trump's daily press conferences on TV, livestreamed on social media, or on the White House's website at WhiteHouse.gov/live.)
It's an unexpected and unprecedented time in our history, and we continue to wish for the continued health and safety of you, your families, and your communities.
Now here's the news you'll want to know this Monday.
Why President Trump's press conferences on coronavirus are so valuable. "Like a general and his staff in wartime, White House coronavirus response team members have become the front line strategic responders to the virus. The president, the vice president, Dr. Anthony Fauci, and Dr. Deborah Birx bring a sense of articulate confident leadership to the country." [Read the full story from Lifezette.] As we've shared with you before, we really appreciate the Trump Administration's press conferences on the coronavirus outbreak. If you haven't watched one yet, we'd highly recommend it.
The press conferences are valuable because the President and his team provide updates, answer questions, and address the American people directly. But they're also reassuring in these uncertain times as the President is joined by experienced national health experts, who bring "articulate confident leadership," as this Lifezette piece notes.
You can tune in on many TV stations, stream it live on social media through the White House's accounts, or watch it directly on the White House website at WhiteHouse.gov/live. Today's briefing is scheduled for 5pm Eastern (Washington, D.C. time).
President Trump put the Defense Production Act to work. "President Donald Trump is applying the Defense Production Act to require General Motors to manufacture more ventilators to respond to the coronavirus pandemic." [Read the full story from the Daily Signal.] The Defense Production Act is legislation from the 1950s that, among other elements, authorizes the President to require the private sector to work on projects or components critical to our national defense. (Of course, this is a broad layman's explanation; somewhere a lawyer or academic will explain it in more detail.)
Now President Trump is using it to take action, in this case to require General Motors (GM) to produce more ventilators needed for America's coronavirus response, as the Daily Signal reported.
Getting more supplies to our doctors and hospitals is a crucial part of our country's response to coronavirus, and it's reassuring to see President Trump continue to work hard to deliver materials where they'll be most needed.
Wow. We can't believe they're playing politics like this. "An activist group backed by a major liberal dark money network announced plans to spend more than $1 million attacking Republican senators over the coronavirus pandemic." [Read the full story from the Washington Free-Beacon.] This isn't a time to play politics. But some liberal groups are pouring a lot of money into attack ads against Republicans ... over the country's coronavirus response, as this Washington Free-Beacon story reports. Today that includes US Senators as well as President Trump.
We can't believe we have to say this again.
Coronavirus isn't a partisan issue. It's an American issue. And it's a time for our country to come together and work together -- not try to score cheap political points.
Well, Joe Biden set a record: lowest level of party support for a presidential campaign. "Only 24% of Democrats are 'very enthusiastic' or 'strongly enthusiastic,' leaving Biden with a severe dearth of principled support, a key element for a successful presidential bid. According to ABC News, it may actually be a significant hurdle: it’s 'the lowest on record for a Democratic presidential candidate in 20 years of ABC/Post polls.'" [Read the full story from the Daily Wire.] It's not a good sign for Joe Biden's presidential campaign when less than a quarter of his party is "very" or "strongly" excited to cast a ballot for him.
Of course, this presidential election year is unlike any other. Coronavirus has put an end to traditional campaigning -- no big events, no campaign stops, and no door-to-door voter contact -- while our country (rightly!) focuses on coming together to solve our common challenge.
The only guarantee is we'll see even more change in upcoming weeks ... and we'll be here to bring you the top stories about the 2020 election that you'll want to know.
