Fight for What You Earn is what Megan Rapinoe, Co-captain of the U.S. Women’s Soccer Team said when asked about why she chose to speak up for equal pay. For women across America, wage inequality is one of the most defining and consistent realities of their careers and work life. It is estimated that women will lose over $1 million in earnings over their lifetime to the wage gap. For Black and Latina women, it is more.
Today, we are releasing our new short video that highlights the efforts of the U.S. Women’s Soccer Team and the WNBA to win pay equity. Like the women featured in the video, we at IWPR believe equal skill, equal talent, and equal effort should be rewarded with equal pay regardless of one’s gender.
In this moment, it is important to lead with our values and work to build an economy that works for all, not just the few at the top. Winning pay equity and accelerating the closing of the pay gap is a critical component of a strong economy. When women are economically secure, the economy thrives, and so do families and communities.
Watch the video and be sure to share it with your friends, colleagues, and networks. As we dream up and imagine a more just world for women, girls and their families, we need you on the frontlines with us.
