“Uncommitted” to Biden – Committed to Solidarity with Working Class People Around the World

Over the past several weeks, over 350,000 people have voted "uncommitted" in Democratic primaries expressing their growing anger and frustration at the Biden administration’s utter refusal to stop the slaughter of Palestinians, which has grown to over 30,000 killed. Here in Washington, the 50,000-workers strong UFCW 3000 — the largest union in the state — and the American Federation of Teachers local 1789 have endorsed the uncommitted campaign!

Terribly, the vast, overwhelming majority of the Democratic Party Establishment continues to actively support and fund the Israeli apartheid regime and its war against the people of Gaza. Seattle DSA recently organized an occupation of Democratic Party Representative Adam Smith’s office to demand he support a ceasefire, which he has refused.  Adam Smith, like the majority of Democrats, greedily accepts money from war industries and AIPAC — in fact they were the biggest contributors to his election campaigns!

Moreover, Biden and the Democratic Party Establishment have refused to fight for a $15 hour minimum wage, cancel all student debt, codify abortion rights or lift a finger to effectively defend trans rights, which has enflamed working people, particularly young people.

Seattle DSA fully supports the “uncommitted” campaign. We encourage working people in Washington State to vote uncommitted on their primary ballots, which have begun to arrive to voters. Ballots need to be dropped off or mailed by March 12 — the day of the Washington State primaries.

Unfortunately, for your vote to count, you must tick the box  “uncommitted delegates” and check a box on the outside of your ballot envelope that declares that the Democrats are your “preferred party.” While encouraging working people to register their protest in this one election, Seattle DSA believes the Democratic Party is, at its core, a party of big business and war.

While we don't like to call to check this box (to call the Democrats our preferred party) to be able to vote in this primary, it is a tactical step to be able to oppose the Democratic Party's agenda of the war on Gaza. We believe this will make the growing resistance on the left against Biden and this ongoing war visible — not bring people into or closer to the Democrats. For us – and many others – this is about building toward an alternative to right-wing Republicans and Wall Street Democrats.

As one of the organizers of the “uncommitted” campaign in Michigan told
NPR (Feb 27):

"We're experiencing a revolution," said Lexis Zeidan, a 31-year-old Palestinian American organizer who is a spokeswoman for the Listen to Michigan campaign.

"You're going to have your older generation that might still understand or believe in this two-party system," she said. "But you're also having younger voters that are trying so many different strategies and ways ... to upend the current electoral system and let elected officials know that we're not settling for this anymore."

"We're no longer going for the lesser of two evils," she added.

To be clear: Seattle DSA stands for a new political party that represents the interests of working people — a party for the millions, not the millionaires and billionaires! We are fighting right-wing Republicans and Wall Street Democrats. There is a real threat by Donald Trump and his anti-immigrant, racist, misogynist and anti-worker agenda. Trump is the greater evil. However, we are fed up with how the lesser evil – Joe Biden – with his imperialist, pro-capitalist policies is preparing the ground for a return of Trump to the White House.

We need a democratic socialist force on all levels. We need a new mass working class party. The best way to prepare for that  is to join DSA today!

This Tuesday, 3/12

Jim Ellis Plaza -

Freeway Park @ Convention Center

Join Seattle DSA and over 60 other local grassroots organizations to protest Boeing’s war profiteering in Gaza at the annual Aerospace & Defense Supplier Summit (A&DSS). The location will be at Freeway Park at 12Noon this Tuesday (3/12) by the Palestinian flag.

Boeing makes the majority of its $60+ billion in annual revenues from defense contracts, including one for 1,800 missile targeting kits Israel uses to bomb Gaza. The war has killed or wounded tens of thousands of Gazans (over five percent of Gaza’s total population) and left the majority of the surviving population in immediate risk of starvation, unless a ceasefire is implemented.

“Analysts believe Israel used a Boeing-manufactured guided bomb unit, a kind of PGM, during its Oct. 31-Nov. 2 airstrikes on Jabalia Refugee Camp, which reportedly killed 195 people.

An Amnesty International investigation
released December 5 traced the killing of 43 civilians in Gaza — including 19 children — back to Boeing-made JDAMs (a type of PGM) supplied by the United States.”

As Washingtonians, our federal, state, and even local taxes subsidize Boeing’s support for Israel’s war in Gaza. Make your voice heard and stand with the people of Gaza by demanding an immediate and permanent ceasefire, an end to US military aid to Israel, and an end to US attacks on Yemen.
