In the heart of Beacon Hill, affordable housing is on the horizon. El Centro de la Raza, expects to break ground this summer on an 84-unit apartment building, next door to their campus. Marrero?s lifelong friend, Carol Rizzo, served as his executor and helped guide the decision to allocate the funds to El Centro de la Raza, a community organization deeply aligned with Marrero?s values of civil rights, human services, and affordable housing.

Marrero was born in Uruguay and migrated to the States at 19 years old. He ultimately settled in Seattle where he built a successful career and engaged in the community around him. Known for his commitment to voting, public transportation, and low-income housing, Marrero?s donation is posthumously breathing some life into El Centro de la Raza?s plans for low-income housing.

El Centro is a beacon of hope for many, and now Marrero?s legacy will serve as an homage to finding personal success as an immigrant and the profound gift of extending that success to future generations.
