Joe Rogan is no fan of COURIER, John. Last year, he attacked us during his podcast, making fun of our mission to stop the spread of misinformation:

In a moment, we’re going to tell you about Rogan’s latest hateful rant – that Americans will be thrown into Russian-style gulags by 2029 for using the wrong pronouns. Before we do, you should know that COURIER and our affiliated newsrooms in ten battleground states are working around the clock to hold bad actors like Rogan accountable and deliver fact-based reporting to the communities that need it most. Can you pitch in $10 now to support our work? [[link removed]]

Alright, here we go, John:

In a recent episode of the Joe Rogan Experience , Rogan spoke fearfully to a guest about the Internet and how it’s changing society. After ranting about something called “social currency,” Rogan then argued that self-censorship is getting so out of hand that, by 2029, Americans could find themselves in a Soviet Union-era “gulag” as punishment if they call someone by the wrong pronoun.

😳

That’s crazy, John, but here’s why we have to take Joe Rogan seriously:

When he makes these kinds of false, hateful claims, millions are listening. His podcast is still #1 on Spotify, the platform that has the exclusive rights to his show.

The fear and anger that right-wing personalities like Rogan spread directly led to January 6th, COVID misinformation, and a 2022 FBI report that found an alarming rise in hate crimes against the LGBTQ+ community.

Unfortunately, rather than taking a firm stand, Spotify continues to platform Rogan’s hate and misinformation because it’s good for profits.

That’s why COURIER exists, John. Our journalists operate in newsrooms across ten battleground states, and they are dedicated to calling misinformation out and holding those who spread it accountable.

But it takes a lot of resources to support our newsrooms, and we’re counting on supporters like you to help us keep it up. So if you can, please pitch in $10 or any amount today to help us continue fighting back against misinformation. [[link removed]]
