John Today, for International Women’s Day, I want to tell you about one of the most important women in my life – my grandma, Lucile.

Image of David’s Grandmother smiling big as she stands outside the polling place. She is using a walker and wearing an “I voted!” sticker.

My grandma was born in 1917. She was born into a country where women did not have the right to vote, the right to divorce, the right to take out a loan or even have a bank account in their own name.

And women certainly did not have the right to seek an abortion in 1917.

That all started to change 104 years ago. The 19th amendment was formally adopted into the U.S. Constitution in August 1920.

With their new voting powers, women like my grandma fought for all the rights they’ve won today.

But now, as she approaches her 107th birthday this year, she is witnessing those rights get stripped away.

It’s been just under two years since the Supreme Court struck down Roe v Wade and erased the constitutionally protected right to seek an abortion. The consequences have been devastating and far-reaching, including the most extreme abortion ban in the nation getting passed right here in the state my grandma calls home, Idaho.

It won’t stop with Idaho. If Republicans get control of the federal government again, they’re going to pass a national abortion ban. And then they’re coming for voting rights, LGBTQ rights, and so much more.

I’m running to flip this seat because Idahoans deserve a congressman who will keep fighting for progress – not stand in the way. Will you join that fight by making a contribution to our grassroots, people-powered campaign today?

My grandma taught me so much in life, not the least of which is to leave the world better than you found it. The progress her generation helped fight for is under attack, and I won’t stand for it.

We have to stand together in this fight, and I will always be an ally for women’s liberation.

Fighting for you,

David

David Roth is a single, gay dad running for Idaho’s Second Congressional District. We’re going up against a GOP incumbent who has been in this seat for 25 years. It’s time for change in Idaho, and our grassroots campaign is building on the momentum that began in David’s race for U.S. Senate last cycle. The GOP is not planning to defend this seat, so we plan to take it from them and help Democrats retake the House majority next year. We’d love your support to build a solid campaign to bring progress to Idaho and the country.
