News from Congressman Jake Ellzey

Dear John,

Recent News

As we move into spring, I had the opportunity to spend some time in the district and I joined my fellow House Republicans in making some meaningful progress in Washington. On February 28th the House passed my bill, H.R. 6591 – Encouraging Success Act. This legislation helps solve this situation and encourages success of small businesses by compelling the SBA Administrator to review the qualification caps with greater frequency to ensure that small businesses participating in the 8a program are allowed to grow big enough to compete with larger companies once their participation in the program ends.

I am proud of all the hard work that my team put into to help this great piece of legislation get across the finish line and I look forward to seeing the positive impact it has on our small business community.

D.C. Update

Here is some of the legislation we passed this February!

  • H.R. 5856 – Frederick Douglass Trafficking Victims Prevention and Protection Reauthorization Act, as amended.
  • H. Res. 863 – Impeaching Alejandro Nicholas Mayorkas, Secretary of Homeland Security, for high crimes and misdemeanors, as amended.
  • H. Res. 966 – Condemning rape and sexual violence committed by Hamas in its war against Israel.
  • H.R. 7176 – Unlocking our Domestic LNG Potential Act of 2024
-H.R. 7176 cuts red tape surrounding the natural gas export permitting process, protects American jobs, unleashes homegrown American energy, helps our allies, and reduces emissions. Specifically, this bill lifts all restrictions on the import and export of natural gas, with strong protections to prohibit trade with a person or foreign country under sanction or listed as a state sponsor of terrorism.
  • H.R. 5585 – Agent Raul Gonzalez Officer Safety Act
-Imposes criminal penalties on individuals who evade U.S. Border Patrol agents, or other federal, state, or local law enforcement officers assisting Border Patrol agents and makes aliens who are convicted of or admit to committing such acts inadmissible to and removable from the U.S. It also ensures such aliens are ineligible for immigration relief, including asylum.

District Update

During my time at home in Texas this month I was able to visit some of our school districts! Thank you to Blooming Grove ISD, Itasca ISD, Maypearl ISD, and Wortham ISD for the hospitality and opportunity to celebrate your hard working and incredible teams that work to help our students become successful adults. During these visits I got to share some of the books my office has collected from the Library of Congress Surplus Book Program. This program allows me to donate new books to schools throughout the district. Since we joined this program, our office has donated over 1,650 books and looks forward to continuing to share these books throughout the district.

As we move into March, which is National Reading Month, I wanted to share a few ideas to encourage reading in your family and with friends.

  • Join a local book club.
  • Take a trip to your local library and get a library card.
  • Read a book alongside your family pet or favorite stuffed animal.
  • Have a craft day to make bookmarks to share with family and friends.
  • Create a designated reading space in home.

Reading is the fundamental foundation for learning and encouraging our families to read and enjoy reading should always be a priority in our homes.
