A Note From Chrissy
As I write this, we’re about to vote - once again - to prevent a partial government shutdown and give negotiators more time to work out the details of a longer-term spending deal. Sigh. No comment.

From my 83rd town hall to a visit to the southern border, 2024 is off to a busy start. I'm so excited to share the details with you in this month's newsletter!

A Town Hall for the Whole Family

Among a lot of other hats I've worn, I'm a very proud mother of wonderful daughters. Since I joined Congress, I've made it a top priority to extend a helping hand to the children and families in our community. That's why I've championed expanded paid family leave, better care for mothers, infant nutrition, and student skills training to ensure their success in our economy. In Kennett Square, at my 83rd town hall, I invited neighbors to hear about the work I've been doing for families, give me feedback and advice about what else I can do, learn about important federal resources, and ask questions about the next steps in our fight for parents and families in Chester and Berks counties. I'm so grateful to all of the attendees who came to participate in this productive conversation!

The Fight for Bipartisan Border Security and Immigration Reform

On my recent visit to the southern border in El Paso, one thing was clear: Our immigration system is broken.

The American people deserve real solutions to this complex issue right now, and that can only happen through compromise and collaboration across both sides of the aisle. These practical solutions already exist, like Rep. Escobar's bipartisan Dignity Act, which would provide more money for border enforcement and infrastructure, require that employees verify their immigration status, provide a path to citizenship for "Dreamers," and establish a path to permanent residency status for eligible people without lawful immigration status. We have the tools to address this issue NOW – including the bipartisan compromise negotiated in the Senate - and it’s shameful that Republicans tanked the first real legislative progress on this issue in years because Donald Trump asked them to.

Do you need assistance with a federal agency?

My office was recently contacted by a woman named Soumya in Malvern. She told us that she and her family are from Somalia, and they had tried and failed to get their approved green cards from USCIS for three months. Luckily – and likely thanks to my office's intervention – they received their green cards promptly in the mail.

If you're having a problem with a federal agency, I'll do everything in my power to get it resolved – so please, don't hesitate to reach out!

There are plenty more wins and challenges in the months ahead, but together, I know we'll persevere. Thank you for being a part of this team.

There is work to be done,

Chrissy
