Happy Women’s History Month!
Women have and continue to shape, support, and uplift our communities despite the sexist barriers they face, and these barriers multiply for Women of Color. As beautiful, powerful women make up most of our NNCP team, we love who we are and we recognize that we need to strive for both gender equity and racial equity to uplift our communities. As is often the case for historically marginalized people, women's accomplishments have long been minimized and overlooked in American history. So this month, we’re highlighting women’s stories from the past and present. [[link removed]]

As a Black female leader of a non-profit organization, celebrating Women's History Month holds profound significance. It's a time to honor the resilience, achievements, and contributions of women from all walks of life, especially those who have historically been marginalized. This month serves as a reminder of the strides we've made towards gender equality and the work that still lies ahead. Through our organization's initiatives and four pillars ( Economic Mobility, Public Safety, Housing Security, & Civic Engagement ) we strive to uplift and empower women of color, providing them with the resources and opportunities they need to thrive. Let us come together to recognize the invaluable role women play in shaping our world, and commit to forging a brighter, more inclusive future for all.

FIELD NOTES
from Our Team
This week we announced on our socials that we are one of the winning teams of the Buildings Upgrade Prize from the Department of Energy (DOE) . Buildings Up is an American-made challenge that gives cash prizes and technical assistance to transform American buildings to be more energy-efficient and clean energy-ready. Though the challenge received an unprecedented number of submissions, we alongside 39 others were chosen to receive funding from the DOE. We will use our $300,000 cash prize to provide opportunities for communities of Color to design, co-build, and manage their own clean energy projects.

While canvassing, we have seen many people in our Black and Brown communities motivated and filled with pride about the civic duty of voting.
Our community members are hopeful and excited about projecting their voice through their vote. This shows us that voter education is essential to helping our citizens become civically engaged. We also recognize that young voices are key to Charlotte's political landscape.
MEET THE TEAM
Our amazing team is the heart of our organization. Their skills and experience; their outstanding character; and their devotion to helping our BIPOC communities flourish make them more than exceptional. We need good people to do good work, and our team members are people with good hearts and a drive for excellence. We are proud to have such a great team and we’re excited for you to get to know them.
This week, we introduce Bree Hendrick, COO
Bree’s multidisciplinary experience in politics, education, and business has helped her uplift communities across North Carolina. Bree has helped blue collar workers find stable jobs and feel safe in their workplace with her past work as an HR director and a staffing director. She has worked with youth in education as a past elementary school substitute teacher. Bree has great experience in the realm of business with past work in pharmaceutical sales for both global and local companies. She has served in the political arena as the Vice of Chair of her precinct and has worked as the field director and Chief of Staff for Terri Legrand in her campaigns for NC House and Senate. Her understanding of politics and governance is further expanded by her Bachelors in Political Science at UNC Chapel Hill and her certificate in nonprofit management at Duke University.
