John – There’s a lot going on in the realm of reproductive rights right now, but the most shocking story to emerge in recent weeks is the decision by Alabama’s state supreme court to effectively shut down in vitro fertilization (IVF).

What you may not know is that 125 House Republicans – including my opponent Mike Simpson – are currently sponsoring legislation that would ultimately ban IVF nationwide.

The Life at Conception Act would not only institute a nationwide abortion ban, it would define any fertilized embryos as “persons” and therefore make it impossible for IVF to function.

This is not a secret, John, Mike Simpson bragged about cosponsoring this legislation himself – more than a month BEFORE the Supreme Court overturned Roe.

Take a look:

A screenshot of a press release from Congressman Mike Simpson’s official House website gloating that he signed on as a cosponsor of H.R. 1011, the Life at Conception Act.

We’ve said it all along: It was never going to stop with abortion, and it was never about “leaving it up to the states” to decide.

If we allow Republicans to get full control of the federal government again, they WILL PASS a national ban on abortion and strip away all of our personal freedoms.

People ask me why I run in a state like Idaho. This is why.

We have to fight for every single seat because we cannot let this extremist ideology become the law of the land. Can you contribute to help me flip this seat and fight for reproductive rights from Congress?

The consequences of a national IVF ban are far reaching. From the 1 in 6 couples who experience fertility challenges, to same-sex couples who rely on surrogacy to start their families – IVF has been an answered prayer to millions.

Immediately after the Alabama court ruling, three IVF clinics in the state shut down their services, leaving families who were already in the process out tens of thousands of dollars and destroying their dreams of having a child.

If it wasn’t already clear (and it was), this bill should remove all doubt: Republican politicians don’t care about protecting life or encouraging more families to have children. They only care about controlling our lives.

Help me defeat Mike Simpson and flip this seat in November, and we will strip another vote off the scoreboard for this radical agenda.

Thank you,

David Roth is a single, gay dad running for Idaho’s Second Congressional District. We’re going up against a GOP incumbent who has been in this seat for 25 years. It’s time for change in Idaho, and our grassroots campaign is building on the momentum that began in David’s race for U.S. Senate last cycle. The GOP is not planning to defend this seat, so we plan to take it from them and help Democrats retake the House majority next year. We’d love your support to build a solid campaign to bring progress to Idaho and the country.
