This week I traveled to Sacramento with City Councilmembers to meet with state and local leaders and advocate for local resources needed in Los Angeles.

Our historic delegation was also there to advance policy initiatives that will help secure funds and remove barriers to bring more unhoused Angelenos inside.

Meeting with Governor Newsom
Our delegation thanked the Governor for his continued partnership with Los Angeles, including the new announcement mentioned above, which includes $60 million directly to the City. We also made progress with our collaboration between Caltrans and the City to expedite clean-ups of freeway underpasses and find solutions to encampments around those areas.

Meeting with  Business, Consumer Services and Housing Agency Secretary Tomiquia Moss
The days of red tape and slow timelines are over. Our delegation met with Secretary Tomiquia Moss to discuss how the state can allow for developers and housing providers to avoid penalties when using the federal waivers granted to Los Angeles by the Housing and Urban Development.

Solving the homelessness crisis is going to take ALL of us coming together to increase housing supply and remove barriers to housing people that are dying on the streets.

Meeting with Toks Omishakin, Secretary, California State Transportation Agency
Los Angeles is working with partners across state and local entities to house Angelenos that are living on the streets and under the jurisdiction of freeways and underpasses.

We met with Secretary Omishakin to further collaborate on our efforts with Inside Safe and explore new ways that Los Angeles and the state can partner to beautify freeways with art that represents our culture and creativity.

Locking Arms to Address Local Challenges
Our time in Sacramento made it clear that there is nothing that can stop LA when we lock arms across every level of government. It gives me hope to meet with local leaders that care to solve the homelessness crisis – not just in Los Angeles but across the state and the nation.

Bringing people indoors is going to take ALL of us being a part of the solution.
