We Introduced a Resolution to Protect Access to IVF Protecting families' access to IVF and other assisted reproductive technologies is crucial in making sure everyone gets a fair shot at parenthood. Beyond the numbers, IVF has made a positive impact on individuals, families, and communities across the country. IVF and other assisted reproductive technologies contribute to the birth of over 10 million babies globally each year. See the Press Release and Rep. Maces's floor speech on her IVF Resolution here. Congress's Plan for Ukraine President Biden's lack of clarity on our mission in Ukraine has left us with uncertainty. While we've provided significant aid, we still lack a clear plan for disengagement. We need to see a plan from the Biden Administration so we can be sure of what our goal is. Moreover, we need accountability for how funds are used and the equipment we are handing to Ukraine. But more importantly, we must prioritize our own borders and our own citizens first. We were elected by the American people, not the president of Ukraine. Rep. Mace on the news: Congress's path forward. Updates on Impeachment Inquiry Hunter Biden's deposition before the House Oversight and Accountability Committee was nothing short of a charade, full of deceit and dishonesty. Let's be clear: the Biden family has misled the American people time and time again about their corrupt business dealings. We've looked through mountains of evidence—thousands of emails, financial records, and messages—all pointing to their transactions, triggering a staggering 170 suspicious activity reports by banks to the Treasury Department. For six months, the White House has shamelessly stonewalled our demands for transparency, refusing to release critical documents and information regarding then-Vice President Joe Biden's travels and speeches to foreign nations. The House Oversight and Accountability Committee, alongside the Judiciary Committee, will not relent in our pursuit of the truth. We will tear through every lie and ensure that everyone involved is held accountable for their egregious actions. Mace on the news: Hunter Biden was "Defiant and Dishonest" Hard-Left Schumer Nearly Causes Shutdown Our nation's border crisis is spiraling out of control, thanks to the catastrophic failures of Secretary Mayorkas and the current administration's reckless policies. Every state has become a border state, burdened by the consequences of this administration's incompetence. The far-left media will try to cast Republicans as the villains, but the blame for this impending disaster lies squarely with Schumer and his allies. House Republicans have proposed border bills, spending measures, and appropriations, only to be met with rejection from House and Senate Democrats who prioritize illegal immigrants over national security. It's time for Democrats to stop the games and start working to secure our borders and put forth bills that spend money responsibly. Our office will always work on bipartisan bills that put America first, anything less is a betrayal of the trust of the American people. The House on Thursday approved a short-term funding bill to avert a partial government shutdown this weekend, sending the legislation to the Senate one day before Friday’s funding deadline. The legislation cleared the House in a 320-99 vote. The funding deadline has now been moved to March 8 and March 22, buying Congress more time to negotiate spending bills. Rep. Mace on the news: This is the "Schumer Shutdown" Questioning Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin on Going AWOL During the House Armed Services Committee hearing, Secretary of Defense LLoyd Austin's admission of undergoing surgery without informing anyone, including the president or his staff, is a shocking display of negligence and dereliction of duty. We asked him simple questions and he could not answer them. As the second-in-command of the world's most powerful military, his failure to communicate his absence is not only inexcusable, it completely undermines the trust and integrity of the Department of Defense. This disregard for protocol and accountability would not be tolerated in any other circumstance. You can watch our full round of questioning here. Questioning the General Services Administration on Violating Compliance Guidelines Being the Chairperson on the Subcommittee for Cybersecurity and Information Technology, it is our office’s job to make sure that technology procurement for government agencies is secure and safe. As we know, China will stop at nothing to attack our infrastructure and cybersecurity networks. The Office of the Inspector General released a report that found the General Services Administration procured 150 Chinese-made cameras due to egregiously flawed market research. This kind of oversight is exactly why we lack faith in federal agencies. We questioned the Chief Information Officer of the GSA where he failed to give us complete and truthful answers. Every statement he gave contradicted what the Inspector General found in his report. We will continue to push for accountability and closely monitor GSA’s procedure process. You can watch the line of questioning and see the press release here. Congressional Art Competition It's that time of year again: the 2024 Annual Congressional Art Competition! We want to invite all high school students in South Carolina's 1st Congressional District to partake in the Annual Congressional Art Competition hosted by the Congressional Institute. This competition celebrates artistic talent within our district. You can visit here to find out more information about the competition. We look forward seeing all the wonderful talent the Lowcountry has to offer. Celebrating Women at the Citadel Reception In honor of Women's History Month, a reception was held to celebrate the milestone of 25 years since the first female cadet (myself) graduated from The Citadel. It is truly inspiring to see how far we've come since that historic moment in 1999. Since then, hundreds of women have walked across the stage. This is about them– collectively a path has been forged for opportunity, success, and achievement. The dedication and perseverance of these women has left an historic mark on the institution's heritage, showcasing the power of determination and breaking barriers. Meeting with the Lowcountry Hospitality Association This week our team had the opportunity to sit down with members of the Lowcountry Hospitality Association to discuss the successes in our incredible district. Our office got to hear from eight members that shared each of their stories and their vision for the future of hospitality in the Lowcountry. We are always working with local leaders to see how we can help shape a future that puts our residents and tourists first! Our Votes This Week H.R. 5265, the Small Business Administration Rural Performance Report Act Passed the House. With nearly 25,000 farms and 4.8 million acres of farmland in South Carolina, the agricultural industry provides over 259,000 jobs and contributing $51.8 billion annually to the economy. Our vote on this bipartisan bill is significant for supporting small businesses, particularly in rural areas like the Lowcountry. This bill requires the Small Business Administration to report on efforts to promote businesses and agricultural economies in rural regions. H.R. 3511, the Service-Disabled Veteran Opportunities in Small Business Act Passed the House. The house passed without any objection H.R.3511, the Service-Disabled Veteran Opportunities in Small Business Act. We passed this bill to ensure federal agencies award 3% of contracts to small businesses owned by service-disabled veterans. This bill will provide training to agencies to make sure more grants go to service-disabled veteran owned small businesses. Our office has always been committed to veterans and small businesses and we will continue to champion legislation that puts our veterans first. H.R. 6544, the Atomic Energy Advancement Act Passed the House. South Carolina has eight nuclear power plants that account for 54% of our energy production for our state. Our office voted in favor of H.R. 6544, the Atomic Energy Advancement Act because it paves the way for accelerating the deployment of nuclear energy technologies. This bipartisan legislation unleashes American energy potential, and enables for more research and innovation in nuclear technologies. This will put the United States at the forefront of international cooperation and safety standards in the nuclear energy sector. H.R. 4984, the D.C. Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium Campus Revitalization Act Passed the House. Our office voted in favor of on H.R. 4984, the D.C. Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium Campus Revitalization Act. This is an historic vote aimed at revitalizing the RFK Memorial Stadium Campus, transferring its administration to the General Services Administration for leasing to the District of Columbia. This vote enables economic growth by allowing the District to utilize the campus for stadium use, commercial and residential development, or recreational facilities. Not only that, it protects national parks land and mandates park space for more greenery. This historic bill not only unlocks the potential of underutilized space but also creates economic opportunity and enhances public amenities for the benefit of all Americans. H.R. 7463 – Extension of Continuing Appropriations and Other Matters Act, Passed the House. Our office did not vote in favor of H.R. 7463 – Extension of Continuing Appropriations and Other Matters Act, because of concerns over reckless spending practices, insufficient accountability mechanisms for taxpayer dollars, and the overall negative impact of ongoing deficit spending. Our office has always had a consistent stance against Continuing Resolutions and a firm commitment to fiscal responsibility. Voting yes is only kicking the can down the road for another shutdown. We need to see action from all members of Congress that put an end to DC’s rampant spending habits. Yours in Service, Congresswoman Nancy Mace Need Help with a Federal Agency? Call us today.
