John – Democrats are finally at least pretending to care about the border, only because they sense it is a political vulnerability for them. Republicans must seize this opportunity to get meaningful policy changes passed at the southern border to stop the unprecedented flow of illegal immigrants and fentanyl into our country. I highlight all of that below, and explain why we do in fact need a legislative solution to this crisis. Our primaries in Texas are next Tuesday, March 5. I am running for re-election because I believe my district, my state, and my country are all still worth fighting for. If you’re able to donate to my campaign in this final stretch, I would greatly appreciate it. I cannot win re-election without committed patriots like you in my corner and I am so grateful for your support. SUPPORT MY 2024 RE-ELECTION CAMPAIGN Thank you for your continued support. Now, here’s your brief. CONGRESS MUST NOT ABANDON BORDER SECURITY CLICK HERE TO WATCH Joe Biden made a big show about his trip to the border this week. Biden visited Brownsville, Texas, which actually isn’t the epicenter of the worst of the border chaos Biden has caused. But Biden’s visit makes one thing very clear: Democrats are at least pretending to care about the border now. They are pretending to care about the border because they understand it is a political vulnerability for them in the upcoming election, especially for Joe Biden. The border crisis is now the top issue for Americans in this election - even surpassing the economy - and so Democrats are trying to virtue signal that this is an issue they are trying to solve. Two things can be true at once: First, Joe Biden has created the border crisis we are in by rescinding all of the Trump policies that actually helped secure the border (Remain in Mexico, asylum cooperation agreements, basic enforcement of our immigration laws, etc.). Second, we still need a legislative solution to address this crisis and that will only come from Congress. Republicans have an unprecedented opportunity to use the political fear Democrats are experiencing around this issue to our advantage and pass meaningful border security policy into law. More on that below. REPUBLICANS FINALLY HAVE LEVERAGE TO GET BORDER SECURITY REFORMS INTO LAW. WE SHOULDN’T WASTE IT. CLICK HERE TO WATCH This is a unique moment where Democrats are finally politically vulnerable enough to want a deal on border security. This chance will not come again, no matter who becomes President. We have the ability to pass laws that would force Biden’s hand to actually fix the problem, if we act soon. The solution is not to just “enforce the laws we already have.” That has never been the solution, even under President Trump. We need new laws. That’s why Republicans passed HR2, which was mostly new immigration law. Our current laws have too many loopholes, which is why Trump had to make a deal with Mexico to get the border under control. Solutions aren’t that complicated. We need an emergency shutdown for 6 months. We need to reform the standards for asylum claims so not just anyone can claim asylum. And we need to end the mass paroling this administration is allowing because of the loopholes that exist in current law. Nothing makes career politicians like Joe Biden act more quickly than severe political vulnerability. And he is seriously vulnerable on this issue, so much so that it could cost him the presidency. For those worried that passing strong border legislation into law under Biden would be a political gift to him, there are two points: First, the American people have already rightfully judged Joe Biden on the border and believe he is an utter failure who has put our country at risk. No bill is going to change that fact. Second, our border security is simply too important to allow political considerations to get in the way of getting something done on this issue. I am not going to allow millions of illegal immigrants to continue to pour into this country just to make a political point. But I will urge Congressional leadership to take advantage of Joe Biden’s political vulnerability on this issue to pass meaningful border security legislation into law NOW.
