Pastor and Turning Point USA Contributor John Amanchukwu visited Mesa Public Schools this week to address the district’s recent celebration of Black Lives Matter (BLM) at School’s Week of Action.
Amanchukwu accused Mesa Public Schools of using black students in the district as “puppets,” claiming they were GASLIGHTING students into thinking the district was “concerned about them.”
He also condemned the district’s use of a book—in an effort to be “inclusive” and “affirming”—that featured a black student on the cover who identified as transgender.
Black Lives Matter at School’s Week of Action highlighted this year’s theme, “Collective Value,” and proceeded to identify four specific demands the organization aims to impart on public schools:
- “End Zero Tolerance; Implement Restorative Justice”
- “Hire & Retain Black Teachers”
- “Mandate Black History & Ethnic Studies”
- [Students need] “Counselors Not Cops”
Black Lives Matter at School has also advocated for the curriculum to include “Palestinian existence, resistance, culture, global contributions, and the ongoing struggle to realize a free Palestine.” The group has further accused Israel of “settler colonialism, land dispossession, occupation, blockade, apartheid, and attempted genocide of millions of Palestinians.”
