Three days ago, Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick was on Fox News suggesting that we can let grandparents die in order to stop the economic damage that COVID-19 is doing to this country.

This is my dad. He is an 83-year-old veteran. He's more important than any stock portfolio.

Our top priority amid this pandemic should be saving lives. The only way we can revive our economy is by suppressing and containing the virus. And if large numbers of people have to die in order for our economy to work, our economy isn't working.

Donald Trump’s announcement that he wants the economy to be back open again on Easter Sunday -- that he wants “packed churches” of people in close contact with one another by April 12 -- goes against everything that the science and guidance from public health experts tell us about how we need to slow the spread of COVID-19 and prevent it from taking more lives.

We need to reject this false choice of profit or human life. And we need to ensure that we can restore representation in Congress for Texas that values the basic dignity and worth in every single one of us.

I'm counting on you to partner with us -- to make sure that we have leaders in Congress who believe in science and value competence and expertise. And I’m counting on you to make sure that we can capture the incredible momentum our campaign has generated to win in November.
