Dear John:

I’m not easily shocked by Trump these days, but what he said last night may be the worst thing he’s ever said.

Trump told FOX’s Sean Hannity that coronavirus sufferers in New York City really don’t need the ventilators the doctors say they do, and it’s time to get back to work.

If Trump’s cruelty makes you as angry as it makes me, we need you to donate right now. We are fighting to protect people hurt by Trump’s failure in this crisis. We can’t do it without you.

You might have heard that New York City is the center of the coronavirus epidemic in the United States. Yesterday, 100 people died in the city in a single day. NYC has more than 23,000 cases. Gov. Cuomo warned that the state needs 30,000 ventilators immediately--and Trump has only sent 400.

Here’s what Trump said in response:

“I don't believe you need 40,000 or 30,000 ventilators. You go into major hospitals sometimes, and they’ll have two ventilators. And now all of a sudden they’re saying, ‘Can we order 30,000 ventilators?’...the end result is we gotta get back to work.”

This is a statement so cruel that I have trouble believing even Trump would say it--but he did. It shows he only cares about himself and has no respect for everyday people.

The United States now has more infections than any other country in the world. Almost 3.5 million people applied for unemployment insurance in a single week. Trump’s lazy, ignorant response to warnings about COVID19 caused things to get this bad. He’s got to be stopped.

People’s Action is leading the progressive response to this crisis as part of the coalition pushing for a People’s Bailout. And we’re fighting to get Trump out of office so he can’t do this to us for four more years.

We know how hard it is right now. If you donate today, we’ll put your contribution to work building a future where our leaders help us, not hurt us, in times of crisis.

Sincerely,

Derrick Crowe
