Yours in service,   Mann.House.Gov The Week Ahead As Congress approaches yet another deadline to fund the federal government, I want to reiterate my commitment to stopping reckless government spending. America is $34 trillion in debt, and we cannot afford to kick the can down the road without a hard look at what taxpayer dollars are funding. During my town halls last week, Kansans shared that they are rightfully concerned about the nation's rising national debt and are tired of the reckless government spending that is contributing to it. Congress needs to address the situation, return to regular order, and pass 12 individual appropriation bills. Mann Visited Different Counties for Town Hall Meetings Click below to watch:     In the Office Urging Biden Administration to End Electric Vehicle Mandate President Biden has prioritized his Green New Deal agenda over the prosperity of the American people. His electric vehicle mandate would raise costs for Americans, restrict consumer choice, and deepen our reliance on adversaries like China. Last week, I joined more than 130 of my colleagues in sending a letter to President Biden and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), urging him to withdraw his hasty and costly proposed rule to replace liquid fuels and combustion engines with unreliable electric vehicles. This mandate is woefully out of touch with American citizens who are already facing financial hardship. Click here to read the full text of the letter. In the District Mann Listening Tour Recap Thank you to everyone who attended one of my twelve town halls last week. I enjoyed hearing from you and sharing how I am fighting for our conservative Kansas values in Congress. Kansans shared with me their continued frustration with the crisis at our southern border, the out-of-control government spending, the disrupted supply chain, and workforce shortages. These are the issues weighing on Americans in the heartland. We must get our country back on track.  Be on the lookout for when I’ll be in your county next. I’m looking forward to hosting a town hall in all 60 counties in the Big First again this year as part of my annual Mann Listening Tour. Kansas Ag Hero of the Month: The Butenhoffs People who sacrifice so much to care for the land are also the natural caretakers of their local communities. Servant leaders like John and Ginny Buttenhoff, this month’s Ag Heroes, make rural America the backbone of our country. They step into the gap and serve, put others first, and embody the values that make America unique, like faith, family, and freedom. On top of farming their crops and cattle, John and Ginny are active community members in Lincoln County. They believe in the rural way of life and are striving to carry it on for the next generation of rural leaders. America needs people like the Butenhoffs who put food on the table and give back to the rural community that built them. Representing them on the House Agriculture Committee and in Congress is an honor. "Home" by Katherin Price, Lawrence High School, Lawrence, KS I'm excited to announce that my office is accepting submissions for this year's Congressional Art Competition. Each spring, the U.S. House of Representatives hosts a nationwide high school arts competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent in the nation and the Big First District. This year, my office's theme is - Kansas, There's No Place Like Home. The contest is open to all high school students in the Big First District. The winning artwork for our district will be displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol. Students may submit one piece of art. All artwork must be delivered to my Manhattan or Dodge City office, or received by one of my staff members by April 17, 2024.
