America needs leaders like the Butenhoffs who are passionate about the rural way of life. Message from Rep. Tracey Mann. Having Trouble Viewing? Click Here. Fellow Kansan, Agriculture is the heartbeat of the Big First District. Each month, I highlight the life and work of Kansas ag heroes – the people who make our state the pilot light of America and who inspire me to continue fighting for Kansas farmers, ranchers, and agricultural producers. Yours in service,   Mann.House.Gov Kansas Ag Hero of the Month: The Butenhoffs As Kansas agricultural producers work tirelessly to feed, fuel, and clothe the world, they reap a deep sense of satisfaction from a job well done, but it comes at a high price. The calling of agriculture means standing strong in the face of uncertainty, unpredictable weather, bad market conditions, sleepless nights, and early mornings. People who sacrifice so much to care for the land are also the natural caretakers of their local communities. Servant leaders like John and Ginny Buttenhoff, this month’s Ag Heroes, make rural America the backbone of our country. They step into the gap and serve, put others first, and embody the values that make America unique, like faith, family, and freedom. John, Ginny, and their four children farm with John's parents in Lincoln, Kansas, where they grow wheat, milo, and soybeans, and raise Red Angus commercial cattle. Like many Kansas farmers, John began farming when he was old enough to drive a tractor. After graduating college and marrying in 2009, John and Ginny returned to Lincoln to buy their own land and farm alongside their family. "Rural life is wonderful, hard, and rewarding," John said. "It's difficult and fun, and I want to be able to continue that for my kids in this community." John currently serves as the School Board President at USD 298, where he sits on the Education Foundation Board. He is also the Chairman of the Lincoln County Conservation District, an elder at his church, and an active member of the Lincoln County Farm Bureau. Ginny helped establish the Lincoln County Kids Ag Day on the farm eleven years ago. Last year, 80 students participated in the event to engage with local farmers and get a firsthand look at life in agricultural production. America needs leaders like the Butenhoffs who are passionate about the rural way of life. Thank you, John and Ginny, for serving your neighbors, strengthening your community, and putting food on our tables. It is an honor to represent you on the House Agriculture Committee and in Congress. Do you know someone who is a Kansas Ag hero? Let me know by clicking the button below.
