Healthwatch Advisory Board

Are you a Barnet resident, with experience of using local health or social care services? Please consider applying to join the Healthwatch Barnet Advisory Board.

Healthwatch Barnet is your local health and social care champion. The Advisory Board plays a key role in ensuring the involvement of local people in their work and decision-making, upholding their independence, and supporting them to work with other local organisations.

We particularly welcome applications from groups that are less represented in senior NHS decision-making roles, including global majority candidates, disabled people and people with long-term health conditions, including mental health issues.

The majority of board meetings will be online video calls, with some face to face meetings. This role is unpaid and voluntary, although travel expenses can be reimbursed. See the Healthwatch website for more information. To apply, fill in this form.

The healing power of the arts (from Practice Business)

The aftermath of the global pandemic has seen a resurgence of interest in the connection between arts and wellbeing. Lawmakers and health officials are increasingly turning their attention to the potential of arts, given the profound impact of Covid-19 on mental health. This shift follows a 2019 WHO report, challenging the conventional definition of health to encompass overall wellbeing, not just the absence of disease.

Used pragmatically, social media can promote mental well-being (from Bizz Buzz)

The relationship between using social networking sites (SNS) and mental health is a thriving area of research, which is producing mixed results. While terms such as ‘Facebook depression’ have gained popularity in the mainstream press, there is not a consensus on the relationship between SNS use and mental health issues such as depression and anxiety. Results from past research hints that age might moderate the SNS/mental health relationship, yet no specific tests of this interaction have been previously reported.
