FL-27 Newsletter Vol. 118, Issue #53 Dear Friends/Amigos, Our USCIS Webinar on the Parole Process for Cubans, Venezuelans, Nicaraguans, and Haitians was a complete success! The more than 300 attendees who registered got valuable answers to their questions about our complicated parole system. I also had the privilege to meet with Stephanie Kusie, a Member of the Canadian Parliament who has worked extensively in the Americas and who knows the danger the Castro regime poses to our hemisphere. We gave her a great welcome, and I look forward to working together in the future to fight the rise of socialism in Latin America. It is an honor to serve you in Congress. Let me know how I can better serve you by calling my office at (202) 225-3931 with your opinion. Sincerely/Atentamente, María Elvira Salazar U.S. Representative (FL-27) GIVING PANAMA CANAL ZONE VETERANS THE HEALTHCARE THEY DESERVE! Last year, I introduced the Panama Canal Zone (PCZ) Veterans Act to give the veterans who served in the Zone the appropriate healthcare benefits and disability compensation associated with their military service after being exposed to toxic chemicals. Since then, we have gained more than 40 bipartisan legislators to announce their support for this worthy cause. To speed things along, I sent a letter with my colleague Rep. Joaquin Castro (D-TX) to the Department of Veterans Affairs to get PCZ veterans access to benefits potentially entitled to them under the PACT Act, legislation which extended the presumption of service connection (and therefore benefits) for certain diseases associated with herbicide exposure elsewhere. The VA has the authority and independence to expand important benefits to eligible groups of veterans, and I am asking Secretary McDonough to do exactly that. For more info, click here. STRENGTHENING THE U.S - CANADA RELATIONSHIP! Last week, I met with Stephanie Kusie, a Member of the Canadian Parliament who also cares deeply about the U.S. - Canada relationship and our joint efforts in standing against the Cuban regime. As Chairwoman of the Western Hemisphere Subcommittee on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, I find great value in meeting with leaders from across the Americas who champion the cause for liberty, particularly when it affects so many of the families who reside in my congressional district. Thank you so much for visiting Stephanie and come back soon! FIGHTING FOR WEST MIAMI! I had the enormous pleasure to host Mayor Eric Díaz-Padrón in my Miami office to discuss his priorities for the city. Part of my job as your Congresswoman is meeting with elected officials who know their communities well, and Mayor Díaz-Padrón is definitely someone who meets that criteria. Rest assured, as long as I am in Congress, West Miami has someone who is fighting for them and the issues they care about. CASEWORK TESTIMONIALS! My office is one of the best in Congress and is always happy to help our constituents with federal casework. Whether it’s navigating the difficult immigration bureaucracy, securing Social Security benefits, or getting your passports renewed on time before a family vacation, my staff is always willing to help my constituents solve their toughest challenges! Read some testimonials below: "The office of Rep Maria has been beyond helpful with us and our case! We pray and hope to have our family members here soon!" – IR "A real government agency that really cares." – EB "Wonderful experience! I wish I had known earlier.
