Dear John:

This week, the Minnesota Republican Congressional delegation sent a letter to Governor Tim Walz, highlighting a number of concerns we have with the DFL’s efforts to make Minnesota a Sanctuary State.

We have seen what becomes of places that limit their cooperation with law enforcement and become 'sanctuary cities'. These places become hotbeds of dangerous crime and depleted local health and safety resources and are a sanctuary to no one. I am simply appalled that anyone in Minnesota could be in favor of further risking the safety of our communities this way.

I was just at the southern border and can attest to the fact that there are huge numbers of bad actors crossing illegally - from child traffickers to drug cartels to terrorists - and the only way to protect our communities from the very real danger they bring is by cooperating with the agencies that are equipped to enforce our immigration laws.

You can read the full letter here.

It was great catching up with Mayor Zylka and Mr. Radermacher in Little Falls and hearing the work they have been doing in the city and the challenges they have been facing, particularly when it comes to childcare and housing.

Be on the lookout for scammers

Phone and email scams are on the rise. Oftentimes, the scammers will pretend to be from a charity, customer service, the IRS, or even Medicare. Remember:

  • Avoid sharing personal or financial information unexpectedly.
  • Legitimate businesses allow time for decision-making. Do not allow someone to make you feel pressured.
  • Never make charitable donations over the phone. Instead, ask them to send you more information. If the call is legitimate, this will be no problem.
  • Medicare will never call you asking for bank account information.
  • The IRS, or any other federal agency, will never call you demanding payment. You can call 1-800-366-4484 to verify if a caller is an IRS employee.
  • Finally, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

If you want to know more about avoiding a scam, reporting one, or what to do if you have been scammed, please visit the Federal Trade Commission's (FTC's) consumer advice page.

I got to sit down with Compeer Financial when they came to D.C. for the Farm Credit Council annual meeting. We discussed a number of things, including the ways the Investing in Rural America Act can help Farm Credit Institutions.

Thanks for reading!

As always, my office is open and ready to serve constituents of Minnesota's Seventh Congressional District. Please do not hesitate to get in touch if there is anything I can do to help. Have a great weekend!

Sincerely,
