John —

We need to protect special education in Iowa. Governor Reynolds, her out-of-state corporate consultant and her extremist allies have made it their priority to steal local control from Iowa's Area Education Associations — the locally elected bodies that assist with special education across Iowa.

This is a blatant power grab with one aim: To ensure Governor Reynolds' handpicked Director of the Department of Education makes decisions impacting our kids instead of the professionals who have been doing it my entire life.

That's why I started this petition, to call on the state legislature to stand up for special education and stop this AEA bill in its tracks. Will you sign our petition and protect special education today?

As a child, I experienced severe hearing loss from frequent ear infections. This delayed my speech and hearing development. My parents didn't know what to do until someone suggested connecting with our AEA. Our AEA was pivotal in helping me develop, learn and engage with our education system.

My story is not unique, thousands of Iowans have worked with AEA's either as a student or a parent. We need community solutions for community members, not edicts from the governor.

If you are committed to protecting special education in Iowa, then sign my petition and call on the Iowa state legislature to stop this bill and defend special education for all Iowans.

Fighting for AEAs, special education, and all the services they provide matters to each of us and this is how we can Stand Tall for All.
