Friends,

Happy President's Day Weekend! I look forward to seeing you all in Texas this coming week.

This week in the Capitol, the House impeached Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, and passed legislation that will unlock our nation's LNG production and export capabilities. We also took important action by passing the Trafficking Victims Prevention and Protection Reauthorization Act.

Don't forget to scroll through the entire newsletter to see important tips for passport renewals and tax filing. Also, Save the Date for important events across TX02, including my event on cybersecurity and infrastructure security being held on February 27.

Sincerely,

Rep. Crenshaw votes to Impeachment Secretary Mayorkas

Image

This week I voted to impeach DHS Secretary Mayorkas. With the House passing the impeachment measure, it is time for the Senate to do its job.

The Constitution gives the House the sole power of impeachment, meaning impeachment begins in the House, and a simple majority on articles of impeachment is all that is needed before the articles are sent to the Senate.

The House will name Members to be ‘managers’ of Impeachment that will present the articles to the Senate.

The Senate has sole power to try all impeachments. Plainly, the House has the right to accuse, the Senate has the right to judge. The Senate also has discretion on how to try impeachments.

If the official is convicted by a two-thirds vote in the Senate of either treason, bribery or high crimes and misdemeanors, the impeached official will be removed from office, and barred from holding office again.

Rep. Crenshaw votes to Support Domestic LNG

The anti-domestic energy Biden administration announced a recent pause on approvals for proposed liquefied natural gas terminals. This week the House passed, and I supported a bill that eliminates the requirement for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to authorize its export and instead give the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) sole authority over the approval process. In doing so, this will free up more opportunities to increase American LNG production and vital exports.

Rep. Crenshaw Supports Texas' Right to Defend Itself

Image
This week, I joined colleagues in support of Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and his ability to defend Texas. Unfortunately, Texas is having to do the federal government’s job because the Biden Administration’s open border policies. I support Gov. Abbott’s efforts to defend the state against the influx of migrants that are crossing the border illegally. Additionally, I believe we should reimburse Texas for their expenses while doing the job Biden and Mayorkas have failed to do. Instead of challenging Texas in court, the Biden Administration needs to pay them back and do its job!

Rep. Crenshaw stresses the need for Improved Diagnostics for Brain Injuries and Breast Cancer

Image

Today, in the E&C Subcommittee on Health hearing to discuss proposals to support patients and caregivers, I had the opportunity to ask experts key questions on important issues such as improving guidance on identifying traumatic brain injuries (TBI), early diagnosis of CTE (chronic traumatic encephalopathy) and better early detection of breast cancer. Members of our armed forces and first responders are more likely to suffer from a TBI and/or CTE. Having the ability to better diagnose and treat these ailments will improve lives and in some cases save lives. It is well established that early diagnosis of breast cancer saves lives. We must work to develop the best possible screening methods that work on all women and provide the early detection we need.

Rep. Crenshaw takes on EPA's Overregulation

Image

Biden’s radical EPA is implementing standards that will hurt our economy and stifle American innovation while making us more dependent on China. Today I asked one of the leftwing environmentalists why they support policies and regulations that will harm American workers, give a boost to China and do nothing to improve air quality around the world.

House Condemns Hamas’s use of Rape and Sexual Violence as a Weapon

This week I voted for the Condemning rape and sexual violence committed by Hamas in its war against Israel resolution which overwhelmingly passed the House. This measure forcefully condemns Hamas’s use of rape and sexual violence as weapons of war on and since October 7, 2023.

We must continue our support of Israel following the horrific acts perpetrated by Hamas, a terrorist organization, which resulted in the murders of more than 1200 people across Israel, and the taking of more than 200 hostages. For the security of Israelis and Palestinians alike, Hamas must be held accountable and destroyed.

Rep. Crenshaw votes to Fight Against Human Trafficking and support Victims

This week I voted for the
Frederick Douglass Trafficking Victims Prevention and Protection Reauthorization Act,  which reauthorizes and makes reforms to the Trafficking Victims Protection Act, appropriating $241 million each year from 2024 through 2028, for a total of $1.2 billion to combat human trafficking.

We must do all we can to prevent the horrific act of human and sex trafficking. The victims are forever traumatized by the brutality caused by this practice and deserve our support. I am proud to join my colleagues in reauthorizing this program and ensuring it gets the funding it deserves.

Life on the Inside of the Sinaloa Cartel

Image

An ex-drug trafficker and former member of the Sinaloa Cartel joined Rep. Crenshaw in Washington to share his harrowing life story and give insight into how cartels really operate. From helping his father smuggle marijuana as a young boy, to moving thousands of kilos of cocaine as a teenager, to working closely with some of the most notorious drug lords in history – including El Chapo – and ultimately turning against them, our guest was witness to the inner workings and ruthless tactics employed by the most dangerous criminals in modern history.

Basis for Impeachment

As the House of Representatives voted to impeach Homeland Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas this week, Rep. Crenshaw lays out the mechanism and constitutional history behind impeachment proceedings. He breaks down the arguments for and against impeaching Sec. Mayorkas and explores the Founding Fathers' intentions behind the impeachment clause.
