You should be able to go to … a parade … a house of worship … a movie … school … the grocery store… without getting shot John.

But we know that's not the case right now.

Despite over 800 police officers being present, at least 22 people were injured – half of them kids – and 1 woman died on Wednesday when a mass shooting broke out at the Super Bowl parade in Kansas City. And I want to be absolutely clear on why:

Because last June, Brian Fitzpatrick single-handedly blocked wildly popular gun safety legislation – universal background checks and restoring the assault weapons ban – that would save lives.

Local officials can only do so much. Police officers can only do so much. We all can only do so much when guns are so easy to access.

I used guns in the Army. I know all too well the damage they can cause. And it's why I am committed to stopping the bloodshed in our streets by defeating Brian Fitzpatrick so we can pass the commonsense gun safety laws we desperately need.

It doesn't have to be like this. But nothing will change if we don't replace politicians like Fitzpatrick who don't have the courage to stand up to the NRA.

Today, we mourn with the people of Kansas City. Tomorrow, we fight like hell for the laws we need to stop another city, school, and place of worship from becoming synonymous with a mass shooting.

Thanks for being in this fight with me,

Ashley 🚁
