Salaam,

I hope this message finds you in good health and spirits. I recently had the privilege of attending the First International Conference to Rebuild the Health System in Gaza, held in Amman, Jordan, organized by the National Arab American Medical Association and their Jordanian counterparts,* under the esteemed patronage of His Majesty King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein. This landmark event brought together a diverse group of clinical and medical experts, business leaders, and policy makers from across the globe, underlining a shared commitment to address the escalating health crisis in Gaza.

The conference, attended by over sixty organizations and representatives from more than twenty-five countries, highlighted the critical humanitarian and health challenges facing the population in Gaza—especially children, vulnerable women, and the elderly. Amidst the ongoing crisis, the urgent need to rebuild Gaza's health system was a central theme, with a strong call for global collaboration and a coordinated effort to protect healthcare professionals and ensure the provision of medical supplies and support.

Key outcomes from the conference included the issuance of the new Amman Declaration, a resounding affirmation of the moral imperative to take action and outline priorities for alleviating the crisis. The Declaration calls for the preservation of human life, the coordination of medical and humanitarian aid, special attention to the care of orphaned children, and the preservation of educational opportunities for medical students.

As we reflect on the insights and commitments shared at the conference, it is clear that the path to rebuilding Gaza's health system is urgent. The Amman Declaration serves as a call to action for transnational organizations, governments, NGOs, and the global community to come together in support of this critical mission.

In solidarity with the people of Gaza and in support of the efforts to rebuild their health system, I urge our community to stay informed, engaged, and ready to contribute to this cause. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of those who are most in need.

For those who wish to learn more about the conference or how to support the rebuilding efforts, please feel free to reach out. Your support and dedication to humanitarian causes are invaluable, and together, we can work towards a future of health and healing for Gaza.

Sincerely,

Wa'el Alzayat
